May 17th 1999 Sharon Stone falls for Billy Connolly ... but only in a movie

Sharon Stone and Billy Connolly are about to become Hollywood's most unlikely romantic duo. The sexy superstar is close to signing to co-star in Beautiful Joe with the top comedian.
In the romantic comedy she will play a single mother with an insatiable taste for backing horses and the good life. Billy Connolly will play the wimpish Joe who is transformed after he meets her and, when she gets into trouble with mobsters, finds the backbone to stand up to them.

The film is the latest indication that the onetime queen of the box-office is getting her career back on track. She is currently being wooed by producers to return to her famous role of Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct. She appeared to turn her back on a sequel two years ago after a major battle for the rights from the bankrupt Carolco Pictures. In a letter put into evidence she vowed she would only make the film with Paramount, which was one of the losers. But producers are confident they can persuade the superstar to change her mind.
