to be Honored at the 2004
AAFA American Image Awards
Event to benefit amfAR

Kenneth Cole, Vice Chairman of the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), and Sharon Stone, Chairman of amfAR’s Campaign for AIDS Research, will both be honored in New York City on May 3, 2004, by the American Apparel & Footwear Association. Kenneth Cole will receive the prestigious Man of the Year Award and Sharon Stone will accept the Spirit of a Woman Award for her tireless efforts in raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and funds for AIDS research. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for AIDS Research.
The black-tie event will take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan and will be hosted by Kelly Ripa of Regis & Kelly. Other honorees include Oscar de La Renta, Designer of the Year; Bergdorf Goodman, Retailer of the Year; and the “Fab Five” from “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” Fashion Maverick Award.
Kenneth Cole, a renowned American designer and humanitarian, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc. He joined amfAR’s Board of Directors in July 1987 and became Vice Chairman in April 2002. Cole has masterminded amfAR’s public awareness efforts annually since 1985. He creates and donates most of the Foundation’s annual public service advertising, including its national outdoor campaign which first appeared in 1996. He also donates a generous portion of his company’s retail sales on World AIDS Day to amfAR each year.
Sharon Stone has been a staunch supporter of AIDS research since she became the Chairman of amfAR’s Campaign for AIDS Research on World AIDS Day, December 1, 1995. Ms. Stone has traveled nationally and internationally on behalf of the Foundation. At each of her many public appearances, she has worked tirelessly to heighten awareness of HIV/AIDS as a threat to social and economic stability and to underscore the urgent need for continued AIDS research. Ms. Stone has helped amfAR raise major contributions from many corporations and thousands of individuals. Her affiliation with amfAR has broadened the Foundation’s access to urgently needed research dollars.
