Sharon Stone joined with Louis Vuitton last night to unveil a new line of vanity cases she designed for the luxury brand to benefit the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). The unveiling took place at Cinema Against AIDS Venice, a star-studded event, raising over $500,000 for the AIDS charity.
Ms. Stone was joined at the event by Richard Gere, Dennis Hopper, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Laura Linney, Robert Altman, Milos Forman, Chiara Mastroianni, Atom Egoyan, Chiara Caselli, Patrick Swayze, and many more.
Presented in partnership with Louis Vuitton, amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS Venice was held on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore and included a live auction conducted by Ms. Stone, who serves as Chairman of amfAR's Campaign for AIDS Research. The centerpiece of the auction was the original "movie-set style" vanity case, amfAR One, from which the new Louis Vuitton series has taken its inspiration. The one-of-a kind case sold for $16,000. Ms. Stone also auctioned paintings by several renowned Italian artists, including Mimmo Rotella and Vanessa Beecroft. The total amount raised from the auction was $255,000.
"We are so grateful to Sharon Stone and Louis Vuitton for making the launch of Cinema Against AIDS Venice such a resounding success in such a spectacular setting," said Dr. Mathilde Krim, Founding Co-Chair and Chairman of the Board of amfAR.
Cinema Against AIDS has been an important and successful fund-raising event for nearly a decade, generating over $8 million for essential AIDS research. Like the epidemic itself, AIDS research knows no borders, and amfAR's programs have a global reach. Wherever researchers seek "seed" money for innovative, scientifically sound projects, or non-governmental agencies need support and technical assistance to implement critical prevention education programs, amfAR responds.
